How Do I Get Honolulu City and County Police Reports?

Members of the public may request certain non-confidential police reports that do not involve juveniles and do not have redacted personal information. Residents can request police reports and accident reports from the Honolulu Police Department.

Crime Statistics

The Hawaii Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division (CPJAD) provides the statistics of crimes for all counties within the state. In 2017, Honolulu City and County reported a total number of 30,244 crimes, including 2,440 violent crimes, and 27,804 property crimes. The violent crimes reported include 32 murders, 285 rapes, 908 robberies, and 1,215 aggravated assaults. The reported property crimes include 3,331 burglaries, 20,540 larcenies, 3,606 motor vehicle theft, and 327 arsons.

Compared to 2014, this figure represents an overall decline in the crime rate. Over four years, four of eight major crimes declined. Rape, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft rates declined by 11%, 27%, 8%, and 8% respectively. Murder, robbery, aggravated assault, and arson rates increased by 68%, 18%, 4%, and 94% respectively.

What are Honolulu City and County Criminal Records?

Honolulu City and County criminal records are a compilation of official information about the criminal activities of persons within the county. These records are sometimes called ‘Police Clearance’ or ‘Police Abstract’. The Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center (HCJDC) allows interested persons to carry out criminal history records checks in the state. It also permits requesters to access criminal history records through the local police departments or other local law enforcement agencies as public access sites in the state. How to Find Honolulu City and County Sex Offender Information?

The Records and Identification Division of the Honolulu Police Department registers sex offenders living in the county and passes this information to the HCJDC. The HCJDC maintains a central registry of sex offenders and other covered offenders. This statewide resource is available on the website of the Department of the Attorney General. The Honolulu Police Department or Sheriff Division does not provide an online resource for accessing/requesting inmate records or finding inmates. However, the police department does post daily arrest logs on its website. What are Honolulu City and County Court Records?

Online access to court records in Honolulu County is available on two portals: Ho’ohiki and eCourt Kokua. The Ho‘ohiki portal or Hawaii State Judiciary’s Public Access to Court Information hosts civil case documents filed in Circuit, District, and Family courts around the state. The Clerk of Court charges a $5 search fee to find documents. Copy fees include a $1 charge for the first page and 50 cents per page for additional pages. Documents faxed within the State of Hawaii attracts an additional $2 fee for the first page and $1 per page for additional pages. There is a $10 for each electronic copy and audiotape of court records requested. The fee for microfilmed records is $1 per page plus $5 per case record to use the microfilm services. The Department of Health manages records of births registered within the state. Birth records are available online, in-person, and mail requests. Honolulu residents can make online orders for birth records through the state’s Vitrec portal. In addition to government agencies, county public records may also be obtained from third-party websites. These non-government platforms come with intuitive tools that allow for expansive searches. Record seekers may either opt to use these tools to search for a specific record or multiple records. Users are able to search third-party websites remotely for multiple records at a time with just the name of the record subject and their last known location, including the city, county, or state.
